Skill building, networking, promoting collegiality, and knowing the services available to students in Saskatchewan are important components in a medical education along with our classroom and clinical studies. Medical education is now taught at three different sites across Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Regina, and Prince Albert) in order to meet some of these goals. Integration Weekend is an annual event hosted in Regina by the Regina based SMSS and aims to address these components in a fun and educational manner by hosting students of the College of Medicine in all years of study and site locations, including residents, along with our colleagues in the U of R and U of S’s Nursing Programs. Events included in the weekend include skills events such as simulation stations showcasing the Dilawri Simulation Centre, suturing & IV insertion, tours of the Regina General Hospital, and social events around the city.
Goals & Objectives:
1. Expose Year 1 students to the College of Medicine at RGH to introduce future Regina Year 2 students to Regina as well as initiate an interest in residency in Regina for Saskatoon based students
2. Promote collegiality between the distributed sites of the College of Medicine
3. Promote professional development to medical students with a skills circuit including pelvic examination (models), ultrasound, suturing, IV insertion, high fidelity mannequin scenarios, and intubation
4. Provide an opportunity for networking between employers, health region officials, residents, senior and junior medicals students as well as nursing students
